As NLC Class 34 forms up, we are looking for alumni and friends to pitch us with a service project you’d like help with from a small group of NLC participants on our Day of Service in Spring 2018.
Through our group service projects, we aim to promote confidence in leaders by building new skills through collaborative projects in our communities. The Day of Service projects allows participants to learn project development skills in a hands-on environment while working in a group setting. All will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2018.
Pitch your project idea or cause now, and work with Ryan Puente and Don Slocum to form it into a one-day community service project that NLC Class 34 participants will complete in collaboration with your organization. Selected project partners will attend the NLC class on the evening of Thursday, January 18th to pitch the cause and project idea to the class.
After the presentations, the class will complete a speed-networking activity to discuss details of the project with your organization. Participants will then have a week to decide the project they’re interested in working on. Project teams will be finalized during the class retreat on Saturday, January 27th. It will then be the responsibility of each project team to connect with their respective partner organization to schedule a follow-up meeting regarding the project timeline and next steps.
Our community partner organization is expected to attend and present their Day of Service idea, cause, or project to the class on Thursday, January 18, and meet with the respective project team at least once to discuss and plan their service event. Community partners are expected to assist the project team in a collaborative spirit to help achieve the goal of completing this one-day project. Community partners are also expected to be present for the Day of Service on Saturday, May 12, to assist in overseeing completion of the project.
Community partner organizations and affiliated alumni will be recognized at the NLC Class 34 graduation on May 24th, 2017 at 7 pm at Cleveland State University Levin College of Urban Affairs. Partnering organizations will also be featured on our website.
