True2U is a volunteer mentoring program that helps Cleveland eighth graders explore their true selves, and prepare to make the most of high school as the first step on the path to college and career readiness.
Started in 2015 with just 22 schools, in the 2017-18 school year True2U will serve 8th graders in all 66 Cleveland Metropolitan School District schools with the support of an estimated 600 volunteer mentors.
You can help our future leaders grow and develop by becoming a True2U Mentor. Volunteer mentors are matched by talent and interest into teams of 2 or 3, and then assigned a small group of about 12 students to lead for the year.
Mentoring teams meet with their youth at the school on eight Thursdays mornings, leading and facilitating discussion in a structured curriculum that helps youth participants explore their values, interests and strengths and get a new perspective on career options from their mentors.
This process helps define and shape their choice of high school from among more than 37 choices in the CMSD portfolio, and sets them up for success in college, and/or their careers. Get the full schedule.
Mentor Benefits include training and enrichment in the topics, facilitation techniques, and cultural competency skills–provided in person at your convenience, and online.
Plus, you’ll have the satisfaction of helping shape—and being shaped by—the next generation of Cleveland’s leaders.
