Do you remember being in the 8th grade? Did you know who you were and what you were going to be, or did someone help you think it through? Maybe you wish there was someone like that back then. Did you learn something along the way—from that moment to this?
True2U is the hands-on volunteer program that gives you the space and time to share what you’ve learned along your career path with today’s 8th graders. It includes an engaging curriculum and the training to do it well. Just sharing your story with Cleveland students, and being a steady partner along the journey, will have ripple effects for the students and our city, for years to come.
True2U started in 2015 and now serves all 2,500 8th graders in Cleveland Metropolitan School District (CMSD), in 63 school buildings, with the support of hundreds of volunteer mentors.
True2U mentors are dedicated facilitators, working in teams to help students:
-
- Find their strengths
- Explore their interests and career pathways
- Check out their high school options from 30+ in the CMSD portfolio
- Accept and celebrate who they are. . .
So they can be true to themselves—now and in the future.
Mentor benefits include training and enrichment in the topics, facilitation techniques, and cultural competency skills. Plus, you’ll have the satisfaction of helping shape—and being shaped by—the next generation of Cleveland’s leaders.
True2U is proud to partner with the Greater Cleveland Career Consortium (GCCC) and support the PACE (Planning and Career Exploration) Framework in CMSD, an embedded curriculum for 6th – 12th graders that provides them with the knowledge, skills, experiences, and confidence to uncover the occupations or careers they want to pursue.
