10 Sep Healthy Communities team addresses community needs through partnerships
There have been many changes in our community and around the world since the onset of Covid-19. Families have been impacted in so many ways and the need for even basic essentials has increased in ways no one could have ever foreseen.
As a community-based service, Neighborhood Leadership Institute’s Healthy Communities has a group of dedicated Neighborhood Navigators working one-on-one with Cuyahoga County’s pregnant residents to learn, understand and connect those residents to the resources and items they need. In response to one of those needs, they partnered with the Diaper Bank of Greater Cleveland on August 19, 2020 to provide diapers, wipes and books to mothers and families in the community. The staff of Healthy Communities, (Marie Jones, Beverly Moore, and Nailah Muhammad), the founder and CEO of the Diaper Bank of Greater Cleveland (Nakeisha Wells, accompanied by dedicated members of her board), and 20 volunteers came together to ensure that 200 registered families received the diapers and wipes they needed.
While the diaper distribution was a success the need did not stop there. There is still a need for more diaper distributions as well as providing other basic essentials for families. NLI Healthy Communities and the Diaper Bank of Greater Cleveland are partnering for future events such as additional diaper drives and Community Baby Showers to continue to support, advocate and provide needed resources to community members. If you are pregnant or know of a pregnant resident in need of support, please reach out for support by calling our hotline at 216-658-1355. You will receive a call back within 24-48 hours.
